Troubleshooting Fridge Ice Dispenser
How do I fix my refrigerator when it is not cooling?
If your refrigerator is not cooling, we suggest you consider the following solutions to this issue:
What to check:
Make sure the mentioned below parts are not defective. Otherwise, contact Care & Repair to get a troubleshooting service within a short time range around Toronto and GTA. We will supply you with any required certified part.
Dispenser Control Board
Dispenser Control Board is responsible for a smooth functioning of the dispenser system. The defective control board can block transmitting electric power to the dispenser system. Check each detail of the dispenser control board, since just one part could cause a problem. Also verify whether the dispenser control board is not locked by a lock-out feature. Reset the control board by disconnecting it from the power for 30 seconds.
Dispenser Switch
To determine whether the dispenser switch is functioning properly, verify it for its continuity. Unplug your appliance and gain access to the switch by discarding the control panel cover. Use a multi-meter to test the dispenser switch’s continuity. If there is no continuity, you have to replace it.
Dispenser Actuator
If the dispenser actuator is defective, it fails to activate the switches. Usually when the switch is contacted, you can hear a click. Remove the control panel cover and assure yourself that the dispenser actuator is working properly. Pay attention on actuator pivot, actuator housing bracket and switch mounting bracket. If any of these parts is faulty, replace it.
Auger Motor
Auger Motor is located in the ice bin. Its function is to push ice through the dispenser chute by spinning the auger blade. Ice won’t move forward if the auger motor is out of order. Make sure auger motor is not defective. Remove the ice bucket out and push the bucket auger by hand. If the auger is rotating without obstruction, apply a multi-meter to verify the auger motor for its continuity. If it shows no continuity, you are to replace the auger motor.
Dispenser Solenoid
Dispenser Solenoid causes ice releasing by opening a door flap. As soon as the dispenser completes dispensing ice, solenoid closes the door flap. Therefore, in case the dispenser solenoid is non-functional, it won’t open the door flap. Begin with checking the dispenser actuator pin. It has to move freely. Afterwards, verify continuity of the dispenser solenoid using a multi-meter. Replace the dispenser solenoid, if the dispenser actuator pin is defective, or there is no continuity.
Ice Bucket Auger
Ice bucket auger is working in conjunction with the auger motor – the auger motor rotates the auger. If the ice bucket auger is faulty, ice won’t be pushed forward towards the dispenser door. Make sure that the ice auger is properly connected to the auger motor. Make adjustments. In case auger is broken, replace it. Before repair disconnect your fridge from the electrical power.
Dispenser Door Motor
The dispenser door motor regulates the work of the dispenser door. If the dispenser door motor is out of whack, the dispenser door will neither open nor close. Ensure the electric power is supplied to the motor. If the motor is connected to the power, but it is still not operating, replace it. Also check the motor for its continuity using a multi-meter. If continuity is not shown, discard the defective door motor and replace it.
Ice Crusher Blade
Your refrigerator can fail to cool because of defect of the ice crusher blade – it can be broken or bent. Before starting the repair, remove power source from your appliance. Let the ice melt; you can speed up the process using warm water. If you face the evident defect, replace the ice crusher blade.
