How to Fix a Noisy Dishwasher
Any dishwasher would normally produce specific noises. This includes water rushing inside the machine, motor humming and water draining at the end of each washing cycle.
However, you might start hearing unusual and overly loud noises at some point. In this article, we will discuss the most common issues and the ways of fixing them.
The Dishwasher Is Noisy When Filling
The normal noise of a dishwasher still should be stable and relatively quiet. You might start hearing loud squeaking or trembling sounds, or the water flow being intermittent. This could mean that the water valve wore out and needs replacement. If the water valve is not open all the way, it would be harder for water to flow. Try also checking the water hose; it should be straight and not twisted or cramped.
The Dishwasher Is Noisy During Wash Cycle
If you start hearing grinding noises and banging inside the dishwasher while it is working, there might be something obstructing the pump. Pieces of food can fall down and gather inside the pump. The pump impeller hits these pieces and makes noises. Sometimes dishes might break, and the shards go into the pump as well. All you need to do is to clean the pump and the bottom of the dishwasher from all the debris.
The Dishwasher Is Noisy When Draining
In this case, the problem might lie in the draining pump once again. You will need to unplug the dishwasher, empty it completely and open the pump lid. Make sure there is nothing stuck in the pump, which can prevent water from draining.
The Motor Is Noisy
If you hear a loud humming noise, the problem might be in the motor itself. Sometimes, a rattling noise might come from the motor as well. You can try removing the kitchenware and running the empty dishwasher. If the noise remains, you will need to change the motor.
Fixing Wash Arm Bearing Ring and Spray Arm Seal
These parts are usually made of plastic and can wear out occasionally. Wash arm and spray arm rotate constantly, which can cause wear. You can fix this issue by replacing these specific parts.
Fixing Spray Arms
Spray arms have to turn easily and without hitting or touching anything else. Make sure the plates are not obstructing it. If the spray arms start to wobble, the center part might be worn out and should be replaced.
Fixing Pump
What you can do by yourself is to remove the parts of the pump one by one and clean it from debris. If this does not help, you will need to call a serviceman.
